| Friday, evening, April 3rd,1936, will always be remembered as a momentous occasion in the history of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in Detroit, MI, for at that time Beta Mu Chapter at Wayne State University (Formally Wayne University) was organized at Lucy Thurman Y.W.C.A. on that lovely evening in April 3, 1936 some 72 young women became Alpha Kappa Alpha women. The new sorors were greeted that evening by Great Lakes Regional Director Soror Beulah T. Whitby. Over the years some staple Beta Mu activities have been annual Sickle Cell Anemia Drives, Life Membership in N.A.A.C.P., Pan-Hellenic Sine, the collection and redistribution of toys for Children's Hospital, fund raising for impoverished Africans and many other worthwhile endeavors. |
